Vedapureeswarar Temple, Puducherry

Vedapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Puducherry Town in Union Territory of Puducherry. Presiding Deity is called as Vedapureeswarar and Mother is called as Thiripurasundari. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple was demolished by the French troops in 1748. The temple is maintained and administered by the Department of Hindu religious institutions and Wakf of the Government of Puducherry.

The temple remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.

Prayers for marriage, children and for fulfillment of any aspiration placed at the feet of Lord Vedapureeswarar are rewarded without fail. Devotees come here to get rid of their ill luck and mishaps. The Lord grants mental peace to his devotees. Devotees offer clothes to the lord, perform abishek in milk, rosewater, tender coconut, curd, oil, sandal paste, cosmetic powder, sacred ashes etc. Devotees offer Sari to the Goddess. Devotees also fix fluorescent lamps in the temple. Distribute Prasadam to the visitors. Also feed devotees. On Pradosham days they also lit ghee lamps.
