Swarnapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Nallathur Village in Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu. The Temple is located very close to Pondicherry. The Temple is also called as Ponnambalanathar Temple. Presiding Deity is called as Swarnapureeswarar / Ponnambalanathar and Mother is called as Thiripurasundari. The Temple is considered to 185th Devara Vaippu Sthalam sung by Thirunavukkarasar.





Legends
During the British rule, Pakoda daughter of the Cuddalore district collector prayed to Lord Shiva for restoration of her eye sight. As Lord granted her prayer, she offered a big bell to the temple the sound of which is audible even at a long distance.

Temple Opening Time
The temple remains open from 07.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and 06.00 p.m. to 08.30 p.m.
Festivals
Maha Shivarathri in February-March, Tiruvadhirai in December-January and Aipasi Annabishekam in October-November are the festivals celebrated in the temple.
Singers
It is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam. The temple is praised in the hymns of Saint Thirunavukkarasar.
Prayers
Those suffering from impaired vision pray in this temple. Realizing their wishes, devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer vastras. Those aspiring higher education and educational skills worship Mother Karna Vidayini. Those aspiring longevity perform pujas here. Maha Mryutyanja Homa (a ritual to beat Lord Yama) is performed in the temple on Tiruvadhirai day in December-January. Those having pimples or scars in face worship Sundara Vinayaka applying sandal paste.
Those suffering from breathing and stomach troubles pray to Sun on the first day of Adi falling in July and on the first day of Thai falling mostly on January 14, offering orange coloured clothes and wheat preparations as Dhana. This is a suitable place for performing tarpan and ceremonies for ancestors also. One-minute prayer in the temple gives the benefit of 100 years of worship in 100 temples.

    1. From Pondicherry, take PRTC bus no 20 A (Bus Timings: 06.32 AM, 10.40 AM, 02.25 PM, 06.05 PM & 09.22 PM) going to Madukarai via Embalam. Devotees can get down at Embalam Market Bus Stop. The Temple is located at a walkable distance.
