Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Thirubhuvanai, Puducherry
Varadaraja Perumal Temple (Also called as Thirubhuvanai
Temple and Thodatri Perumal Temple) is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu
located at Thirubhuvanai Village near Villianur Town in Union Territory of
Puducherry. Presiding Deity is called as Thothadri Perumal and Mother is called
as Varamangai Thayar. The place was called as Thirubuvanamahadevi Chathurvedhi
Mangalam during Chola Period. Now it is called as Thirubhuvanai.
The Temple is constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is a storehouse of Chola architecture and
believed to have been built by Parantaka
I. The temple follows Vaikasana Agama tradition of
worship and is active in worship practices. The temple is maintained and
administered by the Archaeological Survey of India as a protected monument.
Legends
It is believed that Shukran and Guru worshipped Lord
Vishnu here and attained the Planet status.

PM to 07.00 PM.

Kms from Thirubhuvanai Bus Stop, 3 Kms from Thiruvandarkoil, 3.5 Kms from Madagadipet,
14 Kms from Villianur, 6 Kms from Chinna Babu Samudram Railway Station, 23 Kms
from Puducherry Main Bus Stand, 24 Kms from Puducherry Railway Station, 25 Kms
from Puducherry Airport, 15 Kms from Villianur Railway Station, 20 Kms from
Villupuram, 19 Kms from Villupuram Railway Station, 161 Kms from Chennai
Airport and 179 Kms from Chennai. The temple is located on the Puducherry – Villupuram highway. Bus
facilities are available from both ends. Buses are available for every 10
minutes from Puducherry Main Bus Stand and Villupuram Bus Stand.
From Pondicherry, take the
Villupuram bound Bus and get down at Thirubhuvanai Bus Stop. Share Autos are
available from Thirubhuvanai Bus Stop to reach this Temple. There are several
private buses are runs daily basis from Thirubhuvanai to Pondicherry. The Pondicherry
Road Transport Corporation and The Tamil
Nadu State Transport Corporation operates bus services from Pondicherry to
Villupuram via Thirubhuvanai. Nearest Railway Station is located at Chinna Babu
Samudram, Villianur and Puducherry. Nearest Airport is located at Puducherry
and Chennai.
