Yazhmoorinathar Temple is a Hindu
temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Dharumapuram
in Karaikkal in Union Territory of Puducherry, India. The Temple is also called as Dharmapureeswarar Temple.
Now the place is known as Koilpatthu. Presiding Deity is called as
Yazhmurinathar / Dharmapureeswarar. Mother is called as Madhuraminnammai / Thenamirthavalli
/ Abhayambikai. This is the birth place of Saint Thiru Neelakanda Yazhpanar’s
mother. Yazhpanar is one of the 63 Nayanmars.
It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the
early medieval Thevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanmar Tirugnanasambandar. This is the 168th Devaram Padal Petra Shiva
Sthalam and 51st Sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha
Nadu. This town has a shrine to the revered Guru Gnanasambandhar founder of the
Dharumapura Adheenam. Thakkalur located near to this place, is one of the Devara
Vaippu Sthalam.

This is one of the 27 temples that comes under the
administrative control of Dharumapuram Adheenam. The last consecration ceremony
(Maha Kumbabishekam) took place on 09.02.2017 and prior to that on
20.04.1969.

The temple is open from 7.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from
5.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.
Festivals
Guru Pooja for Saint Thirugnanasambanthar is celebrated
in the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May-June) on the day of Moola Nakshatram. On
this day, Lord Shiva’s procession idol grants darshan to the saint’s idol.

Tirukarthikai in the Tamil
month of Karthikai (November-December).
