Bharathidasan Museum, Puducherry
Bharathidasan Museum is the former house of the renowned
Puducherry born poet and playwright - Bharathidasan (1891-1960) (meaning
"Disciple of Bharathi"). It is located in Perumal Koil Street near to
White Town Area in Puducherry Town in Union Territory of Puducherry.
Bharathidasan was a Tamil poet who was born in Pondicherry. He was a disciple
of Bharathi. Both of their works are often compared as they are equally
praiseworthy. He also wrote some scripts for films on the issue of women
empowerment.
His home was later converted into a museum which
preserves his great literary works. Some of his best compositions were created
in this house. His works reflect the golden age of Tamil literature. If you are
a person who has literary interest and if you have tried enough sightseeing
places in Pondicherry, you must visit this museum. You can visit the museum
anytime throughout the year except for Monday. Monday is considered as a weekly
holiday. The museum remains open from 10 AM. to 5 PM except for Mondays.
The Museum is located very close to famous Varadha Raja
Perumal Temple. The Museum is located at about 350 meters from Ajantha Theatre
Signal Bus Stop, 3 Kms from Puducherry Main Bus Stand, 2 Kms from Puducherry
Railway Station, 5 Kms from Puducherry Airport and 150 Kms from Chennai
Airport. The Museum is situated on Pondicherry Bus Stand to JIPMER (Gorimedu)
Bus Route. Tourists can get down at Ajantha Theatre Signal Bus Stop. The Museum
is located at a walkable distance from this Bus Stop. Taxis and Autos are also
available to reach this Museum from any part of Puducherry. Nearest Railway
