Kalyana Sundareswarar Temple,
Vazhapattampalayam, Puducherry
Kalyana Sundareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Vazhapattampalayam near Osudu Lake in Villianur Commune in Union Territory of Puducherry, India. Presiding Deity is called as Kalyana Sundareswarar and Mother is called as Kokilambikai. The Temple is believed to be around 700 years old.
The
Temple
This temple is facing towards east. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Antrala and Mukha Mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Kalyana Sundareswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Dakshinamoorthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls.
Chandikeswarar
Shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as
Kokilambikai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in
the Mukha Mandapam to the left side of the sanctum. There are shrines for
Vinayaga, Murugan, Navagraha, Bhairava and Suryan in the temple premises. There
is a 1500 year old small Murugan temple, situated near this temple in the
corner of the road.
Connectivity
The
Temple is located at about at about 300 metres from Osudu Eri Stop, 9 Kms from
Puducherry Main Bus Stand, 10 Kms from Puducherry Railway Station, 10 Kms from
Puducherry Airport and 145 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple is situated on
Pondicherry Bus Stand to Vazhudavur Bus Route. Devotees can get down at Osudu Bus
Stop. The Temple is located at a walkable distance from this Bus Stop.
PRTC Bus
18 A and 12 A is plying between Pondicherry Bus Stand to Thirukanur and
Pathukannu will stop at Osudu Eri Bus Stop. All the other private buses running
in this route also stops here. Taxis and Autos are also available to reach this
Temple from any part of Puducherry. Nearest Railway Station is located at
Puducherry. Nearest Airport is located at Puducherry and Chennai.
