Bahour
Lake, Puducherry
Bahour Lake is a seasonal lake, situated at Bahour Town in Bahour Commune in Puducherry District in Union Territory of Puducherry. Bahour Lake is the second largest and perhaps the oldest irrigation lake in Union Territory of Puducherry. This lake is recognized as one of the Important Bird Areas (IBA) of Puducherry.

The Lake
Bahour Lake is a seasonal freshwater wetland and second largest lake in Pondicherry, with a storage capacity of 6.3 million cubic meters. Bahour is one of two Important Bird Areas of India in Pondicherry for the number of birds sighted and for having more than 1% of the biogeographic population of several species of waterfowl including Eurasian Wigeon Anas penelope and Little Grebe Tachybaptus ruficollis.

situated on Pondicherry to Cuddalore Bus Route. Tourists can get down at Kanniyakoil Bus Stop. The Lake is located at
about 7 Kms from this Bus Stop.
PRTC Bus 8 A is plying
between Pondicherry Bus Stand to Bahour will stop at Bahour Bus Stop. All the
other private buses running in this route also stops here. Share Autos and
local buses connecting Pondicherry to Bahour can be taken from this bus stop to
reach this Lake. Taxis and Autos are also available to reach this Lake from any
part of Puducherry. Nearest Railway Station is located at Puducherry. Nearest
Airport is located at Puducherry and Chennai.
