Amirtha Lingeshwarar Temple,
Agaram, Puducherry
Amirtha Lingeshwarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Agaram, an outskirt of Puducherry Town in Union Territory of Puducherry. Presiding Deity is called as Amirtha Lingeshwarar and Mother is called as Abhirami. Amirtha Lingeshwarar was also called as Agastheeswarar in ancient times.
Legends
It is believed that Sage Agastya
and Planet Mars worshipped Lord Shiva here.
The Temple
This
Temple is facing towards east. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing the
sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum and Mukha Mandapam. Presiding
Deity is called as Amirtha
Lingeshwarar. He is
housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Amirtha Lingeshwarar was also
called as Agastheeswarar in ancient times.
Mother
is called as Abhirami. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her
shrine is situated to the left side of the sanctum. Both the sanctum and Mother
shrine shares the Mukha Mandapam. There are shrines for Vinayaga,
Murugan and Navagrahas in the Temple premises.

The Temple is located at about at about 2.5 Kms from Pathukannu Bus Stop, 3 Kms from Osudu
Lake, 10 Kms from Puducherry Main Bus Stand, 11 Kms from Puducherry Railway
Station, 12 Kms from Puducherry Airport and 151 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple is situated on Pondicherry Bus Stand to Vazhudavur / Pathukannu
Bus Route. Tourists can get down at Pathukannu Bus Stop. The Temple can be reached by
taking an Auto from Pathukannu Bus Stop.
PRTC Bus
12 A and 18 A is plying between Pondicherry Bus Stand to Pathukannu / Thirukanur
will stop at Pathukannu
Bus Stop. All the other private buses running in this route also
stops here. Taxis and Autos are also available to reach this Temple from any
part of Puducherry. Nearest Railway Station is located at Puducherry. Nearest
Airport is located at Puducherry and Chennai.
