Bheemeswarar Temple, Omandhur
– The Temple
The temple is facing west with
an entrance arch with mandapam on south. Balipeedam and Nandi can be found in a
mandapam on the west side. Nandi is worshipping Lord through the window. The
sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Antarala, Arthamandapam and a
Mukamandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Bheemeswarar and is facing west.
Lord is also praised as Tiruvarul Easwara Azhwar, Tiruveemeessaram Udaya
Nayanar and Thava Padara Nayanar.
He is housed in the sanctum in
the form of Linga. He is about 6 feet high, housed in a round Avudaiyar. The
Sanctum is on Pathabandha adhistana with three face Kumudam. Sanctum is having
a three-tiered nagara Vimana. Vimana is about 30 feet high. Vinayaga,
Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga are the Koshta idols located around
the sanctum wall. Lord Ganapathi graces in his dancing posture outside south of
the sanctum sanctorum on a lotus shaped peeta.
Lord Dakshinamurthy appears
gracefully with his disciples – Sanakathi saints. Lord Vishnu on the east, Lord
Brahma and Mother Durga on the north bless the devotees from their shrines. There
are shrines for Chandran Suryan, Adalvallan and Utsavars in the Mandapam. Mother
is called as Balambigai / Ksheerambikai. She is housed in a separate east
facing shrine.
There is a unique shrine for
Rajarajeswari in the Temple premises. Yoga Rajeshwari a rare idol is in this
temple. Goddess Rajeshwari is in yoga posture. There are shrines for Vara
Siddhi Vinayaga, Bhairava, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai,
Nagas, Navagrahas and Chandikeswarar in the outer courtyard. Sthala Vriksham is
Vilva tree. There is a Temple for Lord Vaikunda Perumal near Bheemeswarar Temple.
He is about 10 feet tall.
