This Village was part of Panaiyur Nadu under Rajendra Chola Valanaadu during Chola period. The village was gifted to Shaivite ascetics (Thuravi) by Chola Kings. Hence, the village called as Thuraviyur in ancient times. Now, got corrupted to Thoravi.
